Coral
Reef Adventure, produced by
MacGillivray Freeman Films, is a documentary that follows the real-life
expedition of ocean explorers Howard and Michele Hall. There is only one scene
that implies the danger of death from the bends. This occurs when diver Howard
Hall is filmed lying inside a depressurization tank, with his wife Michele,
sitting by his side. The dangers of diving and not receiving enough oxygen are
discussed briefly and responsibly. Coral Reef Adventure is a family
friendly film that is completely void of sex, violence, and profanity and is
recommended for anyone aged 5 and up.
The Halls take us to the sun drenched waters of
the South Pacific to showcase the beauty and magnitude of coral reefs. They do
not embark on this journey with the sole intent of displaying the intrinsic
beauty of coral reefs, but because of concerns for the health of the reefs and
the future of our global oceans.
The use of the IMAX camera not only delivers
stunning crisp and colorful images, but once the researchers have returned to
the lab it allows them to clearly view and examine the damage to the coral for
further analysis. Along this interesting journey, the Halls encounter other
scientists and conservationists who share a concern for the preservation of the
reefs.
With dazzling underwater scenes of Australia’s
Great Barrier Reef, the deep sea corals of Fiji and the beautiful blue-water
canyons of Rangiroa near Tahiti, the Halls capture the flourishing activities
that take part in the reefs by their many interesting sea inhabitants. Narrated
by Liam Neeson, and accompanied by a wonderful array of music from Crosby,
Stills, and Nash, guitarist Bob Brozman, and the Fiji Cultural Group 2002; this
film gives you the feeling of being in the South Pacific right along side them.
Coral Reef Adventure
is a great educational movie for children; it shows the important relationship
between animals and nature and how we as humans are also affected if this
delicate balance is disturbed.
