Opal Buloni is a lonely little girl. Abandoned by her mother and uprooted from
her home by her preoccupied preacher father, Opal finds that none of the other
children in her new town want to be her friend. But when a stray dog causes a
ruckus in the local Winn-Dixie store, Opal speaks out and claims the dog (whom
she names after the store) as her own. In Winn-Dixie, Opal finds a confidant and
a loyal friend..one who somehow gives her direction on what to do with her life,
and through whom Opal begins to make friends of the human kind.
Filled with humor and warmth, Because of Winn-Dixie is a movie that
will have young viewers laughing and crying. The film teaches not to judge by
what is on the outside, but to take the time to look inside a person and express
our feelings if we expect others to open up to us. It also shows us that what we
all need to be loved is to love others.
Because of its emphasis on family-friendly values, the Parents
Television Council is proud to award Because of Winn-Dixie with the
PTC Seal of ApprovalTM. The PTC recommends this movie for viewers
over age five.
