In
this gentle live-action movie, family dog Aussie becomes jealous of Laney’s
attention to her magical teddy bear, Ted, and hides Ted. When Ted is taken from
his hiding place, Aussie is launched on a long adventure to find him and be
reunited with Laney and his family.
There is very
little content of concern to parents in Aussie & Ted, and all of it is
mild. During his adventures Aussie is bullied by bigger dog Rufus, rescues Ted
from a burning house, and is chased by a man on horseback who comically falls
off. The elderly woman who gave Ted to Laney dies, but this is shown as her
simply falling asleep, with another animal later commenting, “she’s at peace
now.” There are several references in dialogue to the word “butt,” with Aussie
commenting of Rufus, “He’ll chew my butt off!” and the like, and also several
references to animal “poop” when Laney’s family moves to a farm. Aussie saves
himself from Rufus by audibly passing gas, causing the other dog to retreat in
disgust.
With lessons about
friendship, loyalty, courage, responsibility and working together, and
characters including a little girl, “talking” animals (real animals with speech
heard in voice-over) and magical teddy bears, this sweet movie will delight
young viewers. The Parents Television Council is pleased to award Aussie &
Ted with the PTC Seal of ApprovalTM. This movie is
appropriate for children ages five and up.
