This animated film
centers around Barry the bee and his efforts to allow bees to keep their honey.
He discovers that bees are kept in honey farms and wants to set them free from
their forced labor. He succeeds, but in the process all of the bees stop working
because they have a surplus of honey. The bees no longer pollinate flowers and
the delicate ecosystem is interrupted. Barry and the other bees resume their
duties and also help other insects and animals who are being exploited.
As a movie geared
mainly for children, there was very little problematic content. There were a
couple of mild sexual remarks that only teenagers and adults would understand:
one bee says “that girl was hot,” and another says that a cricket’s legs kept
him up all night.
Mild violence was
present due to the tension between some of the humans and bees, but there was no
injury or death depicted: A human brandishes a box cutting knife at a bee;
there is a fight between a human, using a push pin, and a bee using his stinger;
a bee and a human slap each other several times; at one point a human comes
after a bee, trying to kill him. There are no actual injuries depicted in the
film.
There is no foul
language in the film. One character says “poo water” in reference to toilet bowl
water. Barry the bee jokes about a suicide pact with his human friend.
Themes of the movie
were working together, doing one’s job, using imagination and thinking outside
of the box.
Because of its
family-friendly content the Parents Television Council is proud to award Bee
Movie with the PTC Seal of ApprovalTM. The PTC recommends
Bee Movie for all ages.
