A film for the entire family!
Curious George is delightful and refreshingly funny with wonderful
animation that pays tribute to the original art of the classic books by H.A. Rey
(published by Houghton Mifflin Books for Children in 1941).
George's adventures begin when Ted, the Man in the Yellow
Hat (voiced by Will Ferrell), meets him in the jungles of Africa while on an
expedition for an obscure monkey statue for the museum where Ted works. The
excitement continues when the little primate stows away on Ted's ship so that he
can be with him. What a surprise Ted gets when he finds George in his
apartment!
But while George is all fun and games, Ted has bigger problems. It seems that
the giant monkey statue he was sent to bring back from Africa is only three
inches high! He is distraught at the thought of having to tell the museum's
owner the bad news as they are relying on the statue to bring in more paying
guests and keep the museum open.
Through all of Ted's problems, George continues his natural curiosity and gets
into all kinds of mischief. In Ted's building, he finds a prima donna opera
singer who is having her apartment decorated. Open paint cans give way to
George creating a "masterpiece" all over her walls and floors! At a zoo, George
sails away with a huge bunch of helium balloons and Ted has to gather a bigger
bunch to sail up after him. The flight through the air is fun and exciting,
though some smaller or sensitive children might be afraid for George. When a
plan is devised to enlarge the tiny monkey statue, George uses it to enlarge
himself and causes all of the news stations to report on the "giant monkey seen
walking through the streets," as well as causing considerable traffic problems
and scaring the city's inhabitants.
But despite the problems that George may cause, he is endearing and wins the
hearts of everyone that gets to know him!
Other actors that lend their voices to Curious George are: Dick Van Dyke,
Drew Barrymore, Eugene Levy and Joan Plowright.
