Don’t
Forget the Lyrics!
on Fox
BY CHRISTIE OSBORN
During difficult times, it can be hard to appreciate the good
things in life and remember to have a little fun. But on Friday, June 12th
at 8:00 p.m. ET, two women took some time to relax and enjoy singing along with
some popular songs on Fox’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics! This game show,
hosted by Wayne Brady, gives contestants the opportunity to win up to one
million dollars by singing the correct lyrics to songs chosen from nine
different categories. The contestants and audience alike had fun and grooved
along to the Ricky Minor Band as they performed well-known songs such as “Hot
Stuff” by Donna Summers and “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey.
Shari Wilson, an energetic single mom from Detroit, Michigan,
shared that she only had $108 in her checking account prior to coming on the
show, but that did not keep her from smiling. Even though she had fallen on hard
times, Shari was optimistic because her daughter, eight-year-old Brittany, was
not supposed to have lived through her first year. Shari called Brittany her
“miracle baby” and continued to think positively despite her financial
situation. Her soulful voice had the audience swaying as she sang “What’s New
Pussycat?” by Tom Jones, “Light My Fire” by The Doors, “Against the Wind” by Bob
Seger and other classic tunes. She almost made it to the $100,000 category, but
James Brown’s “I Got You (I Feel Good)” left her feeling unsure about her
lyrics. She was not deterred though; she happily walked away with $50,000 and
her healthy daughter.
The second contestant, Michelle Grimaldo from San Diego,
California, also shared with the audience the difficult times she and her family
had faced. They lost their home in the San Diego wildfires last year and have
been trying to piece their lives back together ever since. With the support of
family and friends, Michelle powerfully sang through songs like, “How Much I
Feel” by Ambrosia, “People Are Strange” by The Doors, and “Come Sail Away” by
Styx. Michelle was stumped during the $200,000 category and could not finish the
lyrics to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”, so she and her family walked away with
$100,000. Seeing these two women, who have had their fair share of trials, laugh
and have a good time, is enough reason to remember the positives in our own
lives, making this program the Best TV Show of the Week.
